Tahir Sajjad was born in Saeela village of District Jhelum, Pakistan in 1970. The first six years of his life were spent in China, during his father’s Diplomatic Service.

Upon his return to Pakistan, Sajjad’s formal studies resulted in graduation from Punjab University in Economics, and Political Science and Persian in 1990, although his true passion was and remains painting.

During this period, his interest in art led him to study miniature painting under the instruction of Ustad Ahmed Ali Shahdad. His teacher had headed the prestigious Fine Art faculty at Kabul University, but was resident in Islamabad because of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and resultant resistance. Whilst in Pakistan, he founded the Behzad Miniature Course and Sajjad worked under his guidance for three years, a period when he also learnt to speak Dari (Persian) language.

Our Artist has now spent nearly twenty eight years learning, adopting and adding his personal interpretation to the work of Ustad Ahmed Ali Shahdad. The instigation for pictures comes mainly from personal memory and imagination although he has been commissioned to use his unique style to enhance photographic copies.

Most of Sajjad’s work to date has focused on illustrating a snapshot of typical central Asian life. On occasions he has also depicted through his oil paintings snapshots of some attractive scenes from Europe and elsewhere. His paintings which detail the sport of buzkashi and tent-pegging are particularly popular. He also paints portraits and landscapes, although his main passion remains Behzad style miniature paintings.

Sajjad now has been living in the UK for over 16  years and has exhibited his work on several occasions where a number of his works have been purchased.
